January is always such a crap month, so I like to keep myself happy by treating myself to no expense luxuries – which includes a decent DIY manicure with my favourite nail brand; Essie. Essie Summit of Style was my go-to nail colour over the festive period, as it added the right amount of glitter and sparkle, and matched perfectly with any colour I used. As January rolled around, I wanted a colour which matched my mood (black as night, ha) and decided to match it with Licorice. Licorice is a deep, intense black which is ridiculously glossy, even with a top coat. It goes on perfectly in two coats and dries fairly quickly (although I always use my fast-dry top coat to speed things along). Summit of Style is part of the nail brans ‘Luxeffect’ range, and is a bronze gold glitter set in a clear background colour. It includes small and large-sized glitter particles, so it’s ridiculously easy to create a gradient glitter look or go for an intense, glittery full top coat. To achieve the look above, I applied a base coat, two coats of Licorice and left these to dry. I then applied a line of Summit of Style across the base of my nail then, with an almost clean brush, I brushed the glitter particles up the nail to create the gradient effect. If I felt one nail had more than another, I would dip the brush back in and dot more glitter into the spaces that needed filling. Apply your top coat, leave to dry and voila, you have super glittery, easy party nails which require 1) no effort and 2) hardly any time. You can purchase Licorice from Superdrug for £7.99, and Summit of Style from Fragrance Direct for the bargain price of £2.49. It's only a second time that I'm sporting black nails and I'm not exactly sure why. I've always loved deep, dark nail polishes such as burgundy and tawny bronze shades. Black, on the other hand, was a bit intimidating to me, even though I'd ALWAYS see ladies at the department stores rocking it and thought that it looked very classy and sophisticated.
I feel like I’ve gotten really lazy with nail art lately. But when I recently received both a stamping plate and striping tape, along with a duo of polishes, I decided to go all out with a complicated look. I really love the end look! It’s fun and pretty, and just plain fabulous. I used [...]

I told myself I was going to make more of an effort to post regularly on my blog, managed three posts in one week as a comeback and then radio silence the week after – so annoying! But I’m back now and kicking the week off with a Mani Monday post. Everyone knows from the abundance of Essie themed Mani Monday posts I write that it is my favourite nail brand, but every now and again you find another gem which stands out from the crowd. The Barry M Gelly Hi Shine Nail Paint in the shade Rose Hip. As it’s summer and sunny (at the moment) I’m a big, big fan of bright shades, and the fact it’s more of a pastel shade than a bold, in your face colour. For wear, I apply one layer of base coat, two thin layers of Rose Hip and I set it with my Seche Vite quick dry top coat. The Barry M Hi Gelly shade is really shiny anyway, as it’s supposed to mimic a gel manicure, so adding an additional shiny top coat really gives it a premium, gel-inspired manicure effect. The great thing about the Barry M Hi Gelly range is that it retails at £3.99. It’s pretty much half the cost of average Essie shade but I still find Essie beats it in terms of durability and the time it lasts. What do you think of the Barry M Hi Gelly range? What’s your favourite colour? Thanks for reading, S x

Whenever a new popular nail shade pops up on Pinterest, I’m always interest to try it out for myself. There’s something about the fact that it’s pinned by people all over the world, and everyone is loving this one particular shade at a certain moment of time. It makes me think; If it’s good enough for thousands of people across the world, it should be good enough for me! According to this Stylist article, nude nail colours are the go-to shade for summer 2017, and the current most pinned shade on Pinterest is Essie’s Topless & Barefoot. It’s a pretty understated shade, but it’s currently being loved by a LOT of people. Prior to this, another popular Pinterest shade that everyone was going mad for was Essie’s Angora Cardi, a muted rose shade, which I purchased when the hype around it first started. I now adore this shade, so I was excited to try out the current favourite to see if I felt the same way. Topless & Barefoot is a gorgeous nude nail colour that has a pink undertone in certain lights, but it’s ultimately the most perfect nude shade to have ever graced my chubby little fingers. When applied with a base coat, two coats of colour and a top coat the finish is perfectly bold, with no opaqueness whatsoever. Thanks to Essie’s thin, small nail brush, application is quick and it’s easy to manoeuvre around your nail bed (I badly need a proper manicure…) I wouldn’t necessarily wear this colour for a night out, but for daywear it’s perfect both in the workplace and at the weekend. It’s definitely on the more subtle side in terms of shades, but I think it’s a beautiful colour to add a bit of nude class (oo-er) to your fingertips. You can pick up Topless & Barefoot from Nail Polish Direct for £7.95. Thanks for reading, S x
