Milo Ventimiglia knows that when he does an interview for This Is Us, he’s going to get asked one question every time: How does Jack die? And when we caught up with the actor at Timex’s fall collection launch in NYC on Monday, we asked him to estimate how many times he’s been asked that very question.
“Well into one thousand times right now — maybe even a couple of thousand,” Ventimiglia told PEOPLE. “I’ve never made up anything outlandish.”
The show returns for season 2 on Sept. 26, and Ventimiglia confirms the wait to learn Jack Pearson’s fate is almost over.
“I think the answer is going to be coming soon.”
The 40-year-old actor said filming season 2 has been just as rewarding as season one.
“When we were down for our hiatus every day I couldn’t wait to get back on set to see my friends, and see my family,” he shared. “The experience of going back has been positive. It’s very rare in what I do for a living to be part of something that feels so right when you’re in it. I’m happy to be back at work and I’m excited for the audience to start watching.”
Ventimiglia credits everyone involved in the production of This Is Us for making the set feel like home.
“The writing on this show is so incredible,” he shared. “Not only do we have an amazing cast and an amazing production crew, but the experience of making it is so great. I feel like I’m with friends. I feel like I’m with family.”
The actor, who was on hand to fête the new fall collection of Timex watches at a launch party in New York City Monday, said he has yet to swipe anything for Jack’s closet. And for good reason — he’s not ready to say goodbye to his character — and neither are we.
“I’m sure at a certain point I’ll want something of Jack’s, but right now I’m playing Jack, so I’ll leave it at work,” he said.

When he’s not playing Jack, he’s very much of a jeans and boots guy, wearing a denim-on-denim look to the Timex event. He reflected on buying his first watch from the brand when he was a teen.
“My first Timex watch was called an ‘easy reader.’ It had an accordion strap. It was the first watch I bought myself when I was 15,” he shared. “I thought It was cool that I could by myself a timepiece – not just a watch, but a timepiece. The more that I understand and learn about Timex, they take into account their history and their heritage. I always appreciate a brand or a person who doesn’t forget about where they came from and their early days. It was a natural fit to come here and host the party.”
But his ‘easy reader’ isn’t the most meaningful watch in his collection. It’s the timepiece his dad gave him.
“I have my father’s watch that he wore in Vietnam that he pulled out of a safe one day, gave it a shake and it still worked,” Ventimiglia said. “I thought, ‘Wow, this survived a war and four to five decades’ and it was very meaningful. It wasn’t of great monetary value, but it mean something to me because it was my father’s watch during a very different time.”
The actor loves incorporating pieces into his wardrobe that have a story behind them.
“The oldest thing in my closet is a navy peacoat that picked up somewhere. It’s ’50s era. I like pieces with history,” he shared. “I don’t have too many of them, but I try to preserve them and make sure I respect the men that wore them. I also have a pair of World War II boots and every time I put them on I always think about the man who possibly wore these and what he experienced and what he went through.”

Nate Berkus is the expert on all things party planning. But since becoming a father to one-year-old daughter, Poppy, the designer’s go-to entertaining style has had a few changes.
“We entertain around her nap schedule now,” Berkus, artistic advisor for LG Studio, told PEOPLE at a breakfast on June 8, which celebrated the sleek line of high-end appliances he helped design.
But when Poppy isn’t snoozing, Berkus, 44, and husband Jeremiah Brent, 31, keep her busy with poolside play dates that are a far cry from a formal outdoor gathering.
“Our home is now filled with blow up toys from Target in the pool as opposed to margaritas,” Berkus said.

And the menu planning is even simpler.
“We throw food on the barbecue, we’ve actually even had a taco truck come once,” Berkus said. “We do put out snacks for the little ones, and they sit and throw them in the pool.”
Although the guest list has been tweaked to include Poppy’s younger crowd, the design-savvy couple couldn’t be happier with their new scene.
“It’s a welcome change,” Berkus said.

Chip and Joanna Gaines are the definition of marriage goals, but their relationship didn’t necessarily have a fairytale start.
Joanna agreed to go out on a date with Chip after meeting him and his roommate “Hot John” — who she actually tried to approach minutes earlier, but was too shy — in the waiting room of her dad’s auto shop. She had second thoughts, however, after Chip arrived an hour and a half late to pick her up.
“He didn’t apologize for being late, either. He had so much confidence. I don’t know. I can’t explain it. Only Chip could be an hour and a half late and have no one mad about it,” Joanna writes.

The chapter continues to describe the timeline of their relationship, which didn’t actually start until months after they first went out, when Chip (in typical guy fashion) finally called Joanna back.
“I’d made a bet with Hot John to see who could hold out the longest before calling our dates back,” Chip writes “I really wanted that fifty dollars from John! That’s the only reason I didn’t call.”
After they went out a second time, the rest was history.

Florida Couple Who Opened Their Mansion to 70 Foster Kids During Irma Continues to Help: ‘We’re Not Stopping’
by Caitlin Keating @ PEOPLE.com
Tue Sep 26 13:57:27 PDT 2017
A Florida couple who opened their 27,000-square-foot mansion in Boca Raton, Florida, to 70 foster children who had to evacuate during Hurricane Irma, says they have no plans to stop helping anytime soon.
“These kids needed us — and still do,” Jennifer Bell tells PEOPLE. “Even though the hurricane is over, these kids still live in a hurricane.”
When Hurricane Irma hit Florida, Jennifer and her husband, entrepreneur Marc Bell, received a call from SOS Children’s Villages letting them know that the kids — who are all orphans — had to leave their temporary shelter and sleep in cars. Marc, a former executive of Penthouse, is on the board of the children’s shelter.
“Without hesitation we said, ‘Bring them here, we’ll figure it out,’ ” says the mother of three. “They all came over and all they wanted was a shower. They hadn’t eaten and they were all very sleep-deprived.”
What was supposed to be a few-hour visit ended up turning into three days.
While most of the couple’s friends evacuated Florida ahead of the storm, the few who stuck around came over to help — and the one pizzeria that stayed open, delivered pizza.
The kids were scattered throughout the large 9-bedroom, 17-bathroom house and were kept entertained by arts and crafts and even a balloon artist hired by the couple for the younger children.
“We did birthdays for all of the kids because some had birthdays that week,” says Jennifer. “On the last night there was this one little boy and I said, ‘Make a wish.’ He pulled me down and he said, ‘I just want my mommy to come home.’ ”
After the children returned to SOS Children’s Villages, the couple continued to help by creating a GoFundMe page for them. And Jennifer also planned a fun surprise for the kids.
“The little girls wanted these Hello Kitty cars,” she says. “I told my girlfriends and none of them really responded to me. The hurricane was over, so I said, ‘Not only do I want you to buy one of these cars, I want you to all come with me to the village.’ ”
“It’s just a matter of getting people out of their bubble to look at other kids and see what they’re actually going through,” she adds.
On Saturday night, Jennifer and a few friends surprised the kids with their new toy cars.
“All of the sudden you see all of these young kids all coming out on the cars driving with such joy in their faces,” she says. “The surprise was amazing. We also dropped of a lot of Sesame Street stuff and books.”
And a few of her friends have already started to fill out their volunteering mentor forms so they can continue to help the organization as well.
“I think it made us smile more than it made the kids smile,” she says. “Anyone can write a check, but when you go the Village, you see it. It touched their hearts to see the kids so happy.”
Jennifer isn’t slowing down anytime soon. In the next week, she’s hosting an ice cream party at her house for the girls and a pool party because the children weren’t able to swim when they stayed at their house. She’s also gathering used Xboxes and Wii’s for the older children.
“What they want is for me to say, ‘I’m coming on Saturday,’ and I show up on Saturday. They want to see the faces that helped them during the hurricane come back, ” she says. “We’re not stopping. I’ve made it my mission to be there for them. We won’t give up on them.”
